Out of the Blue looks at the processes of becoming: as fractional forms moving into synced systems and as occurrences transforming into stories. The exhibition investigates different types of systems characterized by a generative accumulation linking memories, documents, objects in mechanical unison and human beings together in common projects. “Out of the blue” is a phrase that describes something that suddenly crosses our way. However it might also suggest openness towards the unfamiliar.
What Mie Olise Kjærgaard (DK), Gergely Laszlo (HU), Yoshihito Mizuuchi (JP) and Emcee C.M. Master of None (US) have in common is they use systems to create their works and interrupt them, or allow them to lapse, leaving room for the incalculable. The works in Out of the Blue layer material, build ideas through investigation and the addition of information; another string, or another tentatively collected item or story. Accumulation in the works is intuitively generative, ruled by a spirit of playful experimentation. Perhaps all systems are built this way, beginning with a heap of fragments and slowly accumulating relationships with adjacent entities.
